SUMMER OF COLOR

Back in May our beaches Lifeguard towers were transformed into a vibrant art piece through a Public Art Project called "Summer of Color"
For five months all of LA county's Lifeguard towers, from Zuma to San Pedro will sit as a collective group of art.
Summer of Color is the largest public art project in the U.S.
The Project was made possible by Portraits of Hope, an organization that helps seriously ill and physically disabled children.
All the towers are painted either with flowers or geometric shapes.

"The Flower is a universal symbol of joy, life, youth, beauty, renewal and the environment. It is a design theme integral to Summer of Color.  Geometric shapes are also core elements in this project
as the young participants will be involved in shaping the future."

I am so excited it's the weekend!
"I've got that joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart-woo!"

Have a Colorful weekend!

Comic Con

This past weekend we went to Comic Con in downtown San Diego. If you do not know what Comic Con is, it's just the largest Comic Convention in the world.  People from all over and industries spanning Movies, Television, Gaming and Publishing come together to party and promote. It is completely crazy and full of all kinds of characters real and not.
The Uglydoll Booth was a favorite stop of ours. We were starving, slightly grumpy and getting a little over stimulated when we got to booth, but then our whole attitude changed. All those cute Uglies just waiting to be picked to come home. From Pointy Max to Puglee Camilla had to have one for her own. But the hardest part was trying to decide which one to bring home.
"You can't control Pointy Max. You can't stop Pointy Max. You can't tell Pointy max what to do. Oh wait, is that cheese? Then you own Pointy Max. Ok, so other than the weakness for Cheese, Pointy Max can't be beat. Unless you have a blank piece of paper..."
The coolest thing about the Uglydoll booth was meeting the creators David and Sun-Min, of these famous little creatures.
David and Sun-Min were in love but when Sun-Min had to go back too Korea for a bit David sent her little "miss you" letters with Characters drawn on. As a surprise Sun-Min then sent back David his Character all sew up in felt.
Uglydoll was born!

Dreaming is Free

Dream dream, even for a little while.
Dream dream, filling up an idle hour.
Fade away, radiate.
Camilla and I took these pictures a while back and never got around to posting them. Blondie's Dreaming was playing in the background when we took them.  As a little girl, Camilla loved Blondie and we would listen to her so often that I can probably sing every one of Blondie's songs by heart, although you wouldn't want me too.
I recently came upon these beautiful images and they made me think of the photos we took while listening to Blondie that afternoon back in May.Camilla is wearing a BCBG silk chiffon dress with American Apparel knee hi's and Jeffery Campbell heels.
 Hope you enjoy!
Here's Blondie back in 1979 singing Dreaming in concert.

We also want to thank all our beautiful followers. We love to hear from you, it really makes our day that much more special! We promise to try to get back to all of you that have left us comments very, very soon. A lot of exciting things are happening lately and keeping us so busy that we haven't had time to do any fun shoots.  We came up with a really great idea just the other day that hopefully we can get to in the next week. Until then...

Feminine Finery

Light, sheer, airy chiffon feminine at it finest. Wear it for every day, mix it with denim.
Chiffon with a baby bump = feminine perfection.
Ruffled and Ruched Chiffon even more lovely.
These Photos from Stockholmstreetstyle show just how to wear you chiffon in the day.

Camilla and I did a shoot of this vintage chiffon dressing gown back in December. If you weren't following us then you can see the entire post HERE. We are so loving chiffon right now especially for day wear. To me the perfect chiffon blouse paired with denim or a sheer chiffon long dress or maxi skirt worn with just a body suit (only if you have the body to rock it) or short slip so as to not cover too much skin is the ultimate for summer dressing.
Available at Free People for $98 is this sheer maxi slip dress. You can get your sheer day wear started without too much cost and not much searching. How cute is this with boots and a short slip?
Well, we know it's been forever since our last post. I guess we needed a little break. Things were very busy for a while and we had family here for a week all packed into our tiny house. So with all that, then the dreaded "June Gloom" took over our tiny beach town with temperatures in the 60's, it felt more like December than July. I guess we fell into a state of shock and took a little Vacation.
I needed to end this post with David Hockney because of his swimming pool paintings that came about on his visit to Los Angeles back in the 60's. With all this "June Gloom" I needed to end with sun and pools.
"Style is something you can use, and you can be like a magpie, just taking what you want. The idea of the rigid style seemed to me then something you needn't concern yourself with, it would trap you."

Miss American Pie

The Wildfox new Holiday/resort 2010 photo shoot and ad campaign is as American as Apple pie and as LA as you can get. Check it out here! You will love it, I'm sure. Who cares if the model is Aussie to me that's true Americana a melting and blending of cultures.
Marilyn Monroe at Santa Monica beach shot by George Barris in the weeks between June and July of 1962. A true American sex symbol.
"We were singing, bye-bye Miss American Pie"
Some time way back in the 70's a man in advertising coined the phrase "Baseball, Hot dogs, Apple pie and Chevrolet."
That was America!
Well, I don't eat hot dogs, I think Baseball is a very boring sport to watch although maybe fun to play at some good old fashion work picnic, as for Apple pie, I'd rather have ice cream. And on top of all that I don't drive a Chevy.
So what's American now?

For me it's just simply being with family, friends, hitting the beach or just your very own your backyard to chill, cooking out and drinking a good old Mexican beer with lime please or maybe a margarita.
Our beaches are crazy with people from all over this weekend spanning every culture and race. But, every year we head down to the masses of happy people to celebrate no matter what the weather brings. Then end the day with Fireworks on the beach.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend full of sunshine, cookouts, ice cream and fun.
"We'll just tell your mother that... we ate it all"

Happy fourth of July!
