Think Pink

I have been obsessed with the color pink lately, all shades of it really. And ever since I saw that picture from Fashion week of That Girl in the hot pink suit I knew I needed to find some perfectly Pink pieces.  Then one day out of the blue, at my local Anthropologie a woman returned this hot pink chiffon maxi skirt in my size. And yup, you guessed it I snatched it right up.

Camilla and I went shopping in Santa Monica this past Friday and stopped off at Zara for some great finds.
Wearing her new eyelet cropped cami from Free People and denim shirt and jeans from Urban Outfitters.

We found this amazing pink dress and shoes.
If you are wondering why Camilla is covered in band aids, it's because she took a tumble on her bike, her last week at school.

Camilla ended up buying these perfect fitting hot pink pants.

And I found the pink blazer I had been looking for in a cotton pique fabric so it almost looks a bit vintage.

I am also loving my new Navy Leather Jacket my husband picked up for me last weekend at the Alpine Stars sample sale

Sorry, but we had to end by putting up this video from the movie Funny Face.
It was a little too fitting for the post and Kay Thompson's character as the editor of a high fashion magazine was most obviously inspired by Diana Vreeland of Vogue.

I am so excited Camilla is going to be home for the Summer very, very soon and we can finally get back to blogging together again.
It's so much more fun with a partner and muse.

We are also in the works of transferring to abutterflybyday.com and getting off blogger. I have been working on this very slowly for a while, but now it's time to make the switch. We will keep you posted on our progress. It has been taking a lot longer than I thought it would, but I want it to be a seamless change and I finally have a great, creative and tech guy helping me so soon come!

All the best for a beautiful weekend

Art In The Streets

Saturday we headed down to the MOCA to finally see the exhibit  Art In The Streets. We arrived early to beat the crowds which was smart because we ended up staying the whole afternoon anyways. With so much to see and absorb it took us the full afternoon and we still left saying to each other  "I must have missed that!"  The exhibit is huge covering Street art from 1970's to now and many facets of the culture including really cool photography from Martha Cooper and Ed Templeton to Videos of artist and Blondie Rapping with Fab 5 and Futura painting in the back ground. It encompassed the youth culture of the 70's and 80's and brought back to life artists Haring and Basquiat. I loved the photos that Martha Cooper took of street Artists in the 80's. As well as the fact that most everything in that exhibit was produced on site. There is a lot to show so you'll have to follow along with the read more to see. I could probably have a whole blog on the show with the amount of photos we took. If you live in LA I highly recommend seeing the show it is unconventional and completely different for a museum. Many of these artists are still unknown to the mass public unless they had a Obama tee or something of that nature.
All of this is outside the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA

It's a B-E-A-utiful Day!

Wow! it's been a long time since our last post, time has not been on our side. Too busy I guess, Camilla's Spring break, finals coming and with a really hectic work schedule for myself we haven't had a moment. But this past weekend Camilla was home to shoot photos for her final project and I tagged along while she went out to shoot. It was the most amazing weekend we have had in a LONG time, just like summer days. We hit the beach, barbecued and enjoyed lazy evenings at sunset. Sometimes living in So Cal you can pretend to be on vacation and not do a thing but beach, barbecue, and laze the days away. Maybe that's because I am a Mid West raised girl, so for me living by the beach is a blessing.
Walking down to the beach through our little town we took some pictures.
Just follow the read more to see.

Baby, you'd dig it the most!

Vincent: You know what they call a...a...a Quarter Pounder with cheese in Paris?

Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?
Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't know what the *&%#  a Quarter Pounder is.
Jules: Then what do they call it?
Vincent: They call it a Royale with Cheese.
Jules: A Royale with cheese. What do they call a Big Mac?
Vincent: Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it Le Big - Mac.
Jules: Le Big-Mac. Ha ha ha ha. What do they call a Whopper?
Vincent: I dunno I didn't go into Burger King.
PULP FICTION
In N Out is iconic in California so much so that they have their own lingo such as,
"I'll have a double double animal style."
or my personal fave
"Grilled cheese with grilled onions"
You can't come to California and not try "In N Out" even if you are not a meat eater, because the fries are awesome and you can always order the "grilled cheese" which is just a burger without the pattie but with all the yummy fixin's.
Nope, it's not on the menu, actually none of the lingo is you have to be an insider or merely a Californian.

Camilla and I chose this spot as a location for one of our Loris Lookbook shoots because of the Californian culture it exudes and the fact it is a only "west coast" burger joint.

It is also good old Americana, served up Cali style and whats better than that for a spring featured style book.

L.A. Art Crawl

Opening this Sunday at the MOCA in downtown LA, is an exhibition called
This is the first time a major museum is doing an exhibit exclusively of street art. It will cover street art from the 1970's through the present and of course include international street art stars Banksy and Space invader.
"A show at this level has never been done anywhere."
Jeffrey Deitch
Moca Director
Emmett and I decided to do an art crawl through the streets of LA to gear up for the upcoming exhibit.

We were informed by the gallery owner next door, Shepard had just put this piece up a few days ago and remnants of the wheat paste were still on the ground.

West Coast

"For a second there I thought you disappeared
It rains a lot this time of year"
"And we both go together if one falls down
I talk out loud like you're still around"
"And I miss you
I'm goin back home to the west coast
I wish you woulda put yourself in my suitcase"
Coconut Records
This is more from our lookbook shoot for Loris Shoes.
Inspired by the natural surroundings of our own beautiful beach we grabbed some vintage surfboards we have hanging around the house and headed down.
It was the morning after a huge rainstorm that had been plummeting down on us for days. And after a good storm the next morning is always divine.
All we needed was a vintage Volkswagen Bus and everything would have been perfect.
Camilla is wearing a maxi dress from Loris shoes.
Popped over the maxi is a Crochet hooded top from Free People.
And belted it with a beaded belt from Anthropologie
Wrapped around Camilla's head is a scarf from Loris Shoes
The platforms are the Jeffery Campbell San Diego from Loris.
Believe it or not but these platforms are very comfortable and easy to walk in.
It was a beautiful morning with not many people on the beach, mostly surfers. And although you can't tell by the amazing blue sky and sun it was damn cold.
Well, at least by Southern California standards it was.

Lately we have been ending a lot of our posts with a video. So why stop now?
Here's an oldie but a goodie
And the best version of this song to a video I've found also, it was shot by a film student.

Pretty in Pink

Such a beauty.
This shot just makes me happy.
via Hanneli
 Who is this girl?
She was shot by two different street style bloggers and I am in love with her hair and whole look.
We've seen a lot of hair that has a dipped into paint look with coloring just on the ends. We have also seen a lot of platinum blonds ever since Abbey Lee bleached hers. But the light tinge of color over platinum is gorgeous, well especially on her.
The most famous Platinum blond in my book.
So happy and so beautiful.

Well it's early Sunday Morning and I need coffee now!
Just thought I'd share a bit of beauty since tomorrow is back to work and school for most of us.

Slice of Paradise

Oven fresh style at Zeppy's pizza.

Finally we can show you some more of the Lookbook we shot for Lori's shoes
We were informed that the Lookbook will be debuting in mid April but Lori's loved the photos and said they couldn't wait, so they put some Favorites up on their Blog already as a preview.

They sent us boxes of clothes, shoes and accessories to shoot. After some conversations with Lori's wonderful staff, we decided to style the shoot incorporating some of our own pieces to show how we'd actually wear them. The fun hot pink patent pumps made us want to style the shoot with a colorful, playful vibe and the cute striped skirt with a little gold quilted bag, just felt very Cher from the movie Clueless but with a bit of Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl as well.
It was a spring lookbook, so we decided the feeling needed even more color and a bit of real West Coast charm, and because of that heading down to the  Pier and Arcade seemed fittingly appropriate.

pink patent pumps Chinese Laundry
Striped skirt BB Dakota
Gold bag High Fashion
Floral anklets French Curve
School boy Blazer Vintage
Ruffle top Marc Jacobs
Green patent leather belt J Crew
Headband Anthropologie

We also wanted to share with you that the Online Magazine
The Frisky asked us to give them a list of some of our favorite things. For most of you that read our blog often you probably know some of our list already but if you want to go see the post you can view it here.

What if we all just loved who we are

k
I woke up this morning with a coffee and reading the news on Huffington Post.  Like most days  I start at the front page news but after reading about all the crazy tumultuous things happening in our world and feeling slightly helpless, I cruised over to the style section with hopes dropping out with a bit of mindless fashion news.
Although that was not the case, right there in Black and white were stories of a Beauty Queen being too fat, she lost her crown and had to fight to get it back and young models reduced to eating cotton balls drenched in Orange juice just to stay thin. Believe it or not there was also a story (fact or Fiction who knows) of a mom who is giving her 8 year old Botox

Raising a daughter and being a woman myself, I am all too aware that so many girls and woman hate most parts to all of their bodies. This is nothing new, we woman have fought this battle all our lives, since the beginning of time. Anyone who has studied art or fashion history knows what woman have done to manipulate themselves into what society views as beautiful.  I know first hand, since I have struggled with this myself growing up and still do at times. But  raising a daughter has made me look at how we treat ourselves and each other and it's not good.

Starting this style and fashion blog, as well as working with woman everyday in my job has made me realize it's out of control. It's not just our daughters either it's adult woman too.  I have woman who are well into there 30's and 40's, who are thin and attractive tell me they look fat or ugly all too often. It literally freaks me out because they look great but they don't feel like they do. Something is not right with their body or perfect with their appearance and instead of seeing all they have, they dwell on the things they seemingly think they don't.  I have to say for me, turning forty was a blessing because I started to accept myself and actually like parts of my body. Also raising Camilla who has always had a strong mind of her own and never cared much about what people thought of her, taught me a lot as well. I have to say her strength of character in who she is made me reevaluate myself worth.

I came across this video and site
It's about making a change and loving who you are.
We woman need to stop hating our bodies and for me I can't blame the fashion industry or media because I think it starts at home and every woman can be and have everything if we believe we can.
To me it's about stopping the comparisons and have acceptance of each other.
We can place blame all we want but it does no good and really it's within all of us to change the  perceptions of what is.

These photos of the beautiful plus size model Lizzi Miller that was featured in Glamour mag back in September 2009 was a great step in the right direction to show woman beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
To me she is not really plus size but more like real size and I wish woman could see that she is not only beautiful but looks perfect and comfortable in her own skin.

Naturally Critical from Stephanie Ifill on Vimeo.

This last bit is a snippet of a video where young woman were asked two questions.

1. What do you like about your natural appearance?
and
2.What you don't like about your natural appearance?

Just watch the difference you may or may not be shocked.

Now go have a wonderful weekend full of love and happiness
